GETTING LASH EXTENSIONS

Updated: May 30

I've been getting my lashes done since Jan 2021 after MONTHS of searching for a salon/lash tech that I could trust. Trust to slay my lashes, but trust to also use the proper techniques and safety protocols to keep the integrity of my lashes, in addition to tech me how to properly care for them.

Here is the rundown on getting lash extensions along with some of the questions/comments I get recieve the most.

How long do they last? I've had my lashes last me on average 3 weeks, sometimes a month. This pic was a month retention after my 36 hr labor with my daughter [crying, sweating, pushing out a human]. This also depends on the glue and other supplies your tech uses. Also, washing your lashes daily helps with retention to reduce oil buildup that will deteriorate the glue, hence, unnecessary fallout.

Are they hard to maintain? NO. As you wash your face daily, you must wash your lashes DAILY. Your lash tech can provide lash shampoo, or you can grab this one from Amazon. I personally wash my lashes every morning. I will also wash them again at night if I've had makeup on. Brush & dry them with a little fan. I got mine from Amazon.

I see horror stories, bugs in lashes, burning eyes, etc. That's why I don't want lashes. The red eyes are from the glue and finishing bonder your tech will use to seal your lashes to the glue. The exposure to your eyes is because your eyes may have opened slightly, this has happened to me only a few times. The redness goes away very quickly. Talk to your lash tech if you think you may be allergic to the glue.

AND LASH BUGS?! Do you know what those bugs are called? Demodex lash mites that cause people to develop Blepharitis, an extreme condition caused by an excess of bacteria or clogged oil glands at the base of the eyelashes. Other times, it may result from an over-population of microscopic mites living inside the eyelash follicles. ie: WASH YOUR LASHES

They're too expensive. As a luxury service, yes. Paying $100-$150 for a full set off lashes, & $70-$90 for a fill is expensive. I do take lash breaks from time to time, BUT I don't mind paying for a service like this because of how much I love it. In addition to that, I am paying for the talent, experience, supplies, care, and attention my girl provides. As a freelance creative I'm very well aware that you get what you pay for and I get the best.

They don't look natural. Okay sis, there are 4 styles of lashes that are the most common. Classic, Hybrid, Volume, & Mega Volume. I started with classics, the most natural looking and lightest set. Then as any normal person would, I switched sides and now I'm a volume girly all the way. I personally have switched from a longer wispy volume to a shorter length and I think they suit my eyes the best. If you're new to lashes, start out with a 8-12mm length classic set, those look the most natural.

Do they fall out? Yes, they do. Like the hair on your head, you shed. Your lashes go through a cycle and you will loose lashes. It's normal, however, we're talking around 5 - 10 lashes within the 2 week period, this also depends on if you pick your lashes and sleep on your face. That will cause more fallouts. If you see after a couple days you're loosing A LOT of lashes, call your tech and let her know asap.

Overall I love lash extensions and I believe they are 100% worth it. But with everything, it's up to you and what you like. Lashes may not be for you and that is okay. I think lashes look amazing on everyone at very age.
